At the end of January I’m going to close my Etsy shops. I’m not making jewelry right now and don’t know when I will start again. I’ve tried a few times since graduate school ended, but I have not been inspired enough to complete anything. In the fall I felt determined to create new jewelry but struggled for weeks. I sketched, I made paper models, I tried hammering zinc, but nothing came and I had a heart-to-heart with myself. My focus and interests have changed and I’m not working full time in my studio like I used to. I have one full studio day a week, Sunday, and on that day all I want to do is paint with ink, draw with tape, and explore collage with torn paint chips. I’m supporting myself financially with a wonderful day job so there’s no pressure to sell my work to pay my bills. Instead, I can make whatever I want and slowly and deeply explore ideas and materials. I’m enjoying exactly where I’m at and this feels like a big accomplishment…
I’m not done with jewelry, but I know I’m not ready to return. In the meantime I’m going to focus on my interdisciplinary practice of drawing and works-on-paper, photography, video, and installation. Closing both shops feels like the right thing to do and I don’t know when I will reopen them. I hope you will take advantage of this moment and visit both. If there’s a necklace or drawing you’ve had your eye on, now is the time to click “add-to-cart.” Please feel free to message me with any questions.
Thanks for reading, and, as always, thanks for your interest and wonderful support of my work.
I’ve been working on this drawing for a few months, working here and there and then letting it go… Gesso, ink, pen, and pencil on newsprint, 20 x 30 in.
Thanks for reading.
